Online diploma, or how modern technologies changed education.

Living out of a suitcase, running your own business, working unusual hours, bringing up small children, living abroad or away from a big city – until recently these have been serious obstacles to a diploma or qualifications development. With the advent of the 21st century, they suddenly became surprisingly easy to overcome. The most prestigious universities in the world, such as Harvard or Oxford, make some of their resources publicly available. There are also online-only universities and platforms associating groups of universities. And Poland is not far behind.

Online studies for everyone

A well-know football player or a ski jumper have already completed Online Studies. Soon, Marlena Szoka, an international model and a student of online Management at Vistula University will take her defence. She wrote a thesis about human resources in modern enterprises

– I live in Paris on a daily basis, but I organize sessions and shows all over the world. In addition, in my beloved Poland, I have a family and a boyfriend to whom I devote every free moment. We also run our own business. I spend most of my time on the plane, or on the train. Always rushing. I can only study while traveling or… at night. It is a wonderful and crazy time in my life, but I think about the future – not necessarily related to fashion – says Marlena Szoka. – I recommend this form of study to everyone. Due to technology, we no longer have valid excuses not to study – she adds.

Our law allows for up to 50 % of classes at universities to be held remotely. It is enough to come to classes and exams twice a semester, the rest takes place on the Internet. This is a great opportunity for young parents, busy entrepreneurs and people who find it difficult to commute to lectures on a regular basis … or simply for those who value convenience.

– We understand the ambitions of our students who want to develop professionally or focus on family life simultaneously with their studies. 80 percent of them are entrepreneurs who value time and convenience very much. Young parents constitute a large group. It also includes a lot of unique personalities and enthusiasts: people from the world of fashion, athletes, globetrotters. They connect with us from Poland, France, Great Britain and the United Arab Emirates says Marta Kozak-Gołębiowska, director of the Digital Education Department at Vistula University.

Online studies. How does it work?

You can talk to lecturers live not only at the University, but also during webinars, i.e., lectures in a virtual classroom that you can join from location in the world. If students miss the meeting, they can always watch the video later. No wonder that the number of applicants is growing.

We can see a rapidly growing interest in interest in Online Studies, although it is still a new formula – says Prof. Wawrzyniec Konarski, Rector of Vistula University. – We use this formula for Bachelor’s studies in Finance and Accounting, Economics and Management, as well as supplementary Master’s studies in Management. This year, we also launched second degree Finance and Accounting as well as International Relations at both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree level. Due to the fact that we are a bilingual university, we are preparing to conduct online courses in English. We also create additional online teaching materials for full-time students.

Students can study whenever and wherever they want – be it at night, during breaks from daily duties, on the road, in a cafe, at home. Most importantly, they still stay in constant, remote contact with the University and lecturers who care about their motivation and ensure timeliness. The defence takes place “in the traditional mode”, that is, live, at the University and in front of the commission.
