Rector, mentor, and a great professor. Aleksander Ronikier passed away

It is with great regret that we received the information about the death of Professor Aleksander Ronikier, former rector of the Vistula School of Hospitality. A distinguished scientist, sports activist and respected academic teacher who always said that students are the most important, has passed away.

For years, he was associated with the Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw. He also worked as a professor at Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria. In the years 1995-2013, he held the position of rector of the Mieczysław Orłowicz School of Tourism and Recreation.

He was the president of AZS and vice-president of the Polish Olympic Committee responsible for international affairs and sports medicine, member of the Supreme Council of the Polish Chamber of Tourism, and in his youth, Polish basketball champion in 1962 and 1967.

Professor Aleksander Ronikier, PhD was the author of over 60 publications and academic textbooks, reviewer of numerous research projects of the Committee for Scientific Research, doctoral and habilitation theses, and professorial appointments. In recognition of his outstanding achievements, he was awarded the Knight’s Cross and the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Kalos Kagathos Medal, and the Medal for Merits for Tourism.

Professor Aleksander Ronikier died on October the 4th, 2023.
