Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes – on the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence the Institute of International Relations invites you to the unique scientific seminar.

Start: Tue, 23 Oct 2018, 10:00

100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence is a great opportunity of celebration, but also reflection.

We have uncertain times and Poland’s place in the European political order is an open question today. The existence of Poland as an independent state, however, seems to be a good permanently acquired and beyond any discussion, though it is worth looking back and see that the history is cruel.

At the end of the 18th century, the Polish state, previously a regional power, was erased from the world maps. It ceased to exist for 123 years. The direct perpetrators and beneficiaries of his downfall were three out of five European powers. The so-called “Polish question “was one of the most pressing national issues in Europe, but only the shock caused by the First World War consolidated the conviction of the need to rebuild Polish statehood. In 1918, Poland was brought back into existence. These 100 years that have passed since then, is a dramatic and difficult story of shifting borders and the loss and recovery of the sovereignty. These fundamental transformations took place at a very important, often overwhelming, share of the external factor.

The Institute of International Relations AFiB Vistula invites you to attend a seminar on “REQUIREMENTS AND DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THE POLISH PLACE IN EUROPE AFTER 1918. A CASE OF THE STATE RESTORED AFTER A LONG-LAST PERIOD.” The lecture will be held and the discussion will be led by dr hab. Leszek Kuk, Polish historian, professor at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.

We cordially invite you
