600 years of diplomatic relations between Poland and Turkey
Polish – Turkish relations are longer than 600 years but in 2014 we have 600 anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries in 1414. The importance of this event was recognized by Polish minister of foreign affairs Mr. Radosław Sikorski and Turkish minister of foreign affairs Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu when they signal March 21, 2013 joint declaration to celebrate the 600 years of establishment of Polish -Turkish diplomatic relations.
The national program to celebrate the 600 years anniversary in Poland will be coordinated by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Vistula University feels particularly obliged to celebrate this important anniversary. 600 years of establishment of diplomatic relations is an opportunity to underline not only the historical ties between Poland and Turkey but also to underline the common contemporary interests linking Poland and Turkey in many areas.
Vistula University as a higher learning institution feels that the best way to celebrate the 600 years anniversary will be scholarly conference on historical and contemporary Polish -Turkish relations. We plan to organize the conference in October 2014. The papers will cover besides history of the relations between our countries also contemporary political, security, economic, scientific and cultural relations. There will be a paper on Poles in Turkey and Turks in Poland. The final paper will be devoted to the perspectives of bilateral Polish -Turkish relations.
Polish and Turkish scholars will present their papers thus strengthening scholarly cooperation between two countries. The results of the conference will published in the form of a book in Polish, Turkish and possibly in English.
Besides the conference we plan to announce national competition with prizes for the best BA, MA and doctoral thesis from the years 2012-2014 on Turkey and Polish-Turkish relations.
