Vistula Architecture students succeed at the International Garden Festival in Ponte de Lima
Vistula University Architecture Students once again succeeded in the garden design competition in Ponte de Lima in Portugal. Marlena Piwowarczyk, Maja Piwowarczyk and Weronika Łuczyk created a Therapy Garden, working under the supervision of Joanna Bieńkowska. Their project is underway and will become an important part of the Ponte de Lima International Garden Festival.
Every year, the Portuguese town of Ponte de Lima organizes an open competition to design eleven gardens that become part of The International Garden Festival of Ponte de Lima. Landscape architects taking part in it must dvelop concepts that will fit into the previously announced topic. The current edition runs under the slogan “The Healthy Gardens”.
The festival is not only an exhibition, but an event organised as part of extensive educational activities. It is also an opportunity to integrate the local community. The event starts on the last Friday of May, and it will be held until the end of October. All interested can visit the gardens, which extend over the area of about 2.5 hectares. The visitors can also vote for the best project, which will be kept for the next edition of the festival.
The International Garden Festival in Ponte de Lima is one of the most important events of its kind in Europe. Its goal is to raise the ecological awareness of societies. Its initiators focus on the revitalization of urban spaces, environmental protection, and promotion of good practices in the use of gardens.
