Vistula University at the 30th Science Festival in Warsaw
From 18 to 27 September 2026, Warsaw will host the jubilee 30th Science Festival – the largest and oldest science popularisation event in Poland. This year’s programme will include nearly 1,000 events prepared by more than 113 scientific, educational, and cultural institutions.
The festival will focus on the latest discoveries, contemporary scientific challenges, and questions that researchers are still trying to answer. The programme will feature debates, lectures, workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions, laboratory visits, tours, and interactive educational games. In 2026, the Science Festival is dedicated to Professor Stanisław Staszic, the patron of the year established by the Sejm of the Republic of Poland.
Vistula University has been taking part in the Warsaw Science Festival for many years. This year, we are once again inviting participants to open lectures delivered by our academic staff. The meetings will take place from 21 to 25 September 2026 at the Vistula University campus at 3 Stokłosy Street in Warsaw. The lectures will be available both on campus and online via a live stream on Vistula’s Facebook profile.

Monday, 21 September, 5:30 p.m.
Prof. Wawrzyniec Konarski
“Eamon de Valera and the Road to Anglo-Irish Treaty on December 6, 1921”
The main research goal of the lecture is to recall the role of de Valera as the leader of the united nationalist movement in Ireland in 1917-1921. De Valera’s conceptual and practical contribution to settling the Irish national question at that time did not meet his expectations, even though on December 6, 1921, the Treaty known as the Anglo-Irish Treaty was signed in London. From that moment on, de Valera became the leader of the anti-Treaty republican opposition, which meant the end of the unity of Sinn Fein, the largest party in the Irish nationalist movement. The author analyzes the stages of operation of this policy in the above-mentioned period, as well as the concepts he put forward regarding the status of the Irish state as a political and legal entity in its formative phase.

Wykład omawia niezwyczajne okoliczności inkorporacji i jej etapy do 1526 roku. Podejmuje refleksje na temat skutków inkorporacji bezpośrednio i długofalowo. To zaś w kontekście tożsamości kulturowej i dziedzictwa regionu.

“Cenzura w PRL”
Wykład dotyczy organizacji i funkcjonowania urzędu cenzury, realizacji przez urząd polityki KC PPR – KC PZPR, ale przede wszystkim współpracy redakcji wydawnictw, czasopism oraz wszelkich instytucji kultury i nauki z urzędem cenzury. W dobie Polski Ludowej został zorganizowany rozbudowany system ograniczania wolności słowa, który zawodowi cenzury nazywali „delegowaniem uprawnień”. Temu zjawisku poświęcono w tekście najwięcej miejsca. W wykładzie przedstawię jak urząd cenzury (Główny Urząd Kontroli Publikacji i Widowisk) wymuszał współudział w cenzurowaniu publikowanych treści osoby związane z wydawnictwami, redakcjami czasopism, uczelniami wyższymi, jak ulegali cenzurze sami autorzy, jak rodził się mechanizm autocenzury.

The lecture will focus on the development of artificial intelligence and robotics, from early concepts to contemporary AI-based systems and autonomous robots. Current applications of these technologies in industry, medicine, and everyday life will be discussed, as well as their impact on society and the labor market. The future of AI and robotics and possible directions for their further development will also be discussed.
