Made in China, Mapped Across Continents. Seminar – China in Regions: AComparative Perspective

The rise of China is an unprecedented phenomenon in contemporary history, reshaping the international order at both global and regional levels. Its impact is felt in every part of the world, affecting how states interact and form partnerships. On 25 July 2025 at 11:00 AM, Professor Pramoda Jaiswal and Dr Januka Regmi from the Nepal Institute for International Cooperation and Engagement (NIICE) in Kathmandu will lead a special seminar at Vistula University. The event, titled China in Regions: AComparative Perspective, will take place in the Senate Hall.
The seminar will explore how different regions respond to China’s rapid rise. Depending on their geopolitical contexts, countries in Latin America, Africa, and South Asia view China simultaneously as a partner, a challenge, and a rival – recognizing both new opportunities and potential risks. In the presence of a leading expert in international relations and regional development strategy, Prof. Pramoda Jaiswal, and a specialist in the impact of Chinese investments on local economies, Dr Januka Regmi, we will seek answers to three key questions:
- What strategies do different regions adopt when engaging with China?
- Can China replace the United States as the primary partner and regional hegemon?
- How can the threat of Chinese dominance be mitigated while still benefiting from its investments?
Although the seminar falls during the summer break and the diploma defenses period, we guarantee an inspiring atmosphere and a valuable exchange of ideas. We warmly invite all academic staff, doctoral candidates, and students of international relations and journalism to join us.
