Guest Lecture by Prof. Yoichiro Sato: “US Strategic Thought, Trump Administration and the Alliance Management in Asia and Europe”

We warmly invite you to a guest lecture by Prof. Yoichiro Sato from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, dedicated to contemporary challenges in U.S. foreign policy and changes in alliance management in Asia and Europe.
The lecture entitled “US Strategic Thought, Trump Administration and the Alliance Management in Asia and Europe” will provide a timely analysis of how the current U.S. administration influences alliance relations. It will focus in particular on the importance and evolution of U.S. alliances in Asia – especially with Japan and South Korea – and in Europe through NATO. The discussion will include changes in alliance dynamics, the growing prominence of right-wing politics in Asia, and the widening distance in relations with Europe, all of which are affecting the U.S. position in the international system.
Prof. Yoichiro Sato has an academic background in law and political science: he earned a BA (Law) from Keio University, an MA (International Studies) from the University of South Carolina, and a PhD (Political Science) from the University of Hawaii. He has previously taught, among others, at the U.S. Department of Defense’s Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies and at Auckland University in New Zealand.
