About studies

Technical Writer is a field focused on translating complex technical knowledge into language that can be easily understood by the end user. In practice, technical communication professionals create manuals, help files, procedures, reports, and other types of documentation. They work in roles such as Technical Writer, Technical Documentation Specialist, Documentation Specialist, Technical Editor, User Assistance Specialist, Technical Translation Specialist, and similar positions.

Every IT system, mobile application, or device is accompanied by documentation, user instructions, or help files. The demand for high-quality technical documentation continues to grow, which is why the number of job opportunities for Technical Writers is steadily increasing.

The postgraduate programme offered by our University is the first in Poland to provide practical preparation for this type of professional work. It is an excellent opportunity for graduates of language and philology programmes to apply their language skills in a technical environment and begin a career in the IT technology sector or industry. Participants may also complete optional modules dedicated to the specifics of technical translation into other languages, including German, French and Italian.

The programme was developed in close cooperation with a group of experienced professionals specialising in technical documentation management for technology projects, as well as in the recruitment and training of Technical Writers and technical trainers. It was created in response to strong demand from both businesses – which face a shortage of qualified specialists on the labour market – and prospective students, who previously had limited access to university programmes providing practical preparation for a career in technical communication.

Student profile

The programme is designed for a broad range of participants. Those who will benefit most from the classes include:

  • Graduates of master’s, bachelor’s and engineering programmes, particularly in areas such as philology and communication (English proficiency at B2 level is required),
  • Professionals responsible for creating various types of documentation, manuals, information materials and training content in companies producing machinery, equipment or software, working in roles such as Documentation Specialist, Technical Documentation Specialist, Technical Editor, Technical Writer, Technical Trainer, Content Developer, User Assistance Specialist, Technical Translation Specialist, and similar positions,
  • Testers, analysts, implementation specialists and other professionals working in technology-related industries who want to broaden their horizons, gain new qualifications and develop their knowledge of methods for communicating technical information to internal and external customers,
  • Professionals responsible for coordinating and organising teams involved in the creation, publication and maintenance of technical documentation and training materials,
  • Philologists and translators of foreign languages who want to specialise in technical translation and the preparation of technical documentation,
  • New technology enthusiasts who enjoy working with foreign languages and are looking for a rewarding, well-paid career and an accessible entry point into the technology sector.

Career

Graduates of the Technical Writer 5.0 postgraduate programme gain practical skills in creating and publishing various types of technical documentation. They are able to gather information, format content, review materials and publish different types of documents using specialised tools.

During the programme, students learn the principles of project management and documentation team management, how to develop content publishing strategies, as well as the basic techniques and tools used in professional information management. The curriculum also covers fundamental topics related to automation and usability.

The programme concludes with a final project, which can become a valuable addition to the CV of any aspiring Technical Writer.

Graduates can pursue employment in technology companies, particularly in the IT, industrial and new technology sectors.
