United Nations Association Poland, and the United Nations Association \u2013 Sweden, invite you to a meeting with Professor Piotr Hofma\u0144ski President of the International Criminal Court. The event will take place on-line on September the 7th<\/sup> at 3:00 pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participants of the meeting with the President of the International Criminal Court in the Hague will be welcomed by the President of UNA Sweden Annelie B\u00f6rjesson and the President of the UNA Poland Program Council, Bart\u0142omiej E. Nowak, PhD. Alix Vuillemin, Senior Jurisprudence Adviser at Women\u2019s Initiatives for Gender Justice, will also make a speech. Then professor Piotr Hofma\u0144ski, PhD. During the meeting, you will be able to ask questions and interact with the guest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Criminal Court, based in the Hague, is an international judicial body created by the Treaty of Rome. It is the firstever, permanent, international court established to judge individuals accused of the most serious crimes: genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and aggression. The Court is composed of 18 judges elected by the Assembly of States\u2019 Parties to the Rome Statute, from among candidates proposed by States Parties. The term of office of a judge of the Tribunal shall be 9 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Piotr Hofma\u0144ski is the first Polish judge in history to sit on the International Criminal Court. He was appointed President in March, 2021. In the period 1996-2015, he was a judge of the Supreme Court, adjudicating in the Criminal Chamber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His research interests relate to the efficiency of criminal proceedings, the protection of individual rights in a criminal trial, as well as the use of coercive measures. He is the author and co-author of nearly 300 scientific publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
